What To Do After Overindulging

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

One of my clients was upset because she went to a BBQ and ate a lot of unhealthy food. When she got on the scale, the number went up by 2 pounds and she told me how upset she was.

Let me tell you something.. one bad meal is NOT going to make you gain 2 pounds of fat, just like one good meal won’t make you lose 2 pounds.

The 2 pounds that she gained is most likely from water retention or excess fecal matter stuck in her intestines. You can retain up to 10 pounds in water weight and/or fecal matter so don’t become alarmed if the scale goes up after eating 1 or 2 unhealthy meals.

If you eat poorly for a day or even a few days, don’t worry about it too much! You should allow yourself to indulge in order to keep your healthy lifestyle sustainable and enjoyable! Plus, eating a larger quantity of food if you’ve been in a calorie deficit for a while resets your metabolism and lets your body know that it isn’t starving and tells it that it doesn’t have to hold onto food as storage and will burn it as energy more efficiently.

For the following days after eating unhealthily, focus on:

  • Drinking a lot of water to flush out your system

  • Sweating out excess toxins

  • Eat lots of fibrous fruits and vegetables to cleanse excess waste - citrus fruits such as lemons & grapefruits are especially helpful for detoxification

  • Take an apple cider vinegar shot before meals (recipe here) to help with digestion!

With these methods, your body will be back to normal within a week!

Take care,

Kylie
